3 Lords of the Old Testament

The English language translation of the Old Testament is troublesome.   We have one English word that we use for 3 different Hebrew/Chaldee words.   The word that is so overused is Lord.

In Genesis 1 we find that God (Elohim in the Hebrew/Chaldee language and means Creator/Ruler), created the heaven and earth.  And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.  The Ruach or breath or breeze of Elohim moved upon the face of the waters.

We see the Lord mentioned for the first time here:
Genesis 2:4

4 These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens,

The Lord mentioned in Genesis 2:4 is from the Hebrew word Yahweh,  which the Hebrew people were not allowed to speak.   So they  added a few vowels to make it Yahovah, which in turn we made Jehovah.   Which means the  Self Existent or  Eternal One.   This is the word used must often for the God of Old Testament,  the law, or as I think of Him, Father God.

We have the word lord translated from the Hebrew word Adoni,  which means a physical man, a ruler, rich man of that time.

Than we have The Lord from the word Adonay,  another name for the Lord,  which means Sovereign Controller.

Psalm 110:1

110 The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.       Jehovah said to Adonay.   So I read it as the Father talking to the Son.

Is it hate to disagree with and protest the direction and moral decline of our country.  No;  but the left will claim we are hate filled because we agree with the Word of God.

It is foolish to think this country can continue to be blessed by God when we accept sin as normal. 

As a Christian,  I call for all who love God, to stand fast, act like a man and stand against a government that doesn’t act in the best interest of her people.

Pray for Godly leaders, who are not afraid to stand for the truth.  Who will fight for that we hold dear.

Ephesians 4:7
But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.

Ephesians 4:13
Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

What is your measure of Grace?  Do you have the Grace to believe Jesus is Lord,  He was God become man who died and was Resurected and now sits at the right hand of God .

The sacrifice of His earthly body, His blood covers  our sins and makes us the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.

If you believe that good.  Now do you truly believe He became man, on this earth….just like you and me?

Tempted as we are,  lazy, slothful, greedy, short tempered, covetous?

Probably not.  I believe Jesus was just like us, except He had an open heart to the Father for directions and the Spirit for Power.

Luke 4:2

Hebrews 2:17-18

“Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.”

The only difference in us and Jesus is that He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and knew how to use the Spiritual Gifts  available to whosoever or as many as touch Him.

Romans 12:3

“For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.”

What is your measure of faith?

By Grace we are saved by Faith.  We have to believe the impossible story of Jesus to be saved.   We need to believe the impossible fact that Jesus said:

Mark 6 is a chapter all about perception, the people. thought Jesus was doing mighty works.  He said He could do no mighty works because of their unbelief

He could only heal a few sick.  He was doing the work of His Father.  Being His Father’s  hands.

He fed 5,000, walked on the water with Peter, calmed the storm.  The desiples were astonished.

When they landed on the other side.

” And when they were come out of the ship, straightway they knew him,And ran through that whole region round about, and began to carry about in beds those that were sick, where they heard he was.

And whithersoever he entered, into villages, or cities, or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment: and as many as touched him were made whole.”

Do people run around the villages to bring the sick to your Sunday or weekday services?

When we learn to touch Him, maybe He can then use us to touch others.

Lord, help me to be a vessel for Your love, healing and
Salvation.  May Your Spirit reign in my life.

We all know the symbol of the light bulb.  A brilliant idea.  Eureka!!!

Now, I  know!!!

Six times in Scripture we find this phrase.  Sometimes it is just a statement of fact.

Abram tells Sarai, Now, I know you are a beautiful woman, say you are my sister.  (Genesis 12:11)

Moses father in law, after hearing of the plagues in Egypt :
Exodus 18:11
“ Now I know that the Lord is greater than all gods: “

Naaman, after being told to go wash in the Jordan 7 times, to be clean of Leprosy.
2 Kings 5:15
” Behold, now I know that there is no God in all the earth, but in Israel: “

Peter, after the angel released him from prison :
Acts 12:11
” Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, “

The one that really opened my eyes was in the story of. Abraham and Isaac, when the Lord said:
Genesis 22:12

“And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.”

The Lord himself said :  “Now I know ”   is it possible that the Lord who is omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient  just found out something? Or was it a statement of fact. 

Like with Job, the Lord knew all along the faithfulness of Abraham,  He needed Abraham to do the unthinkable to prove to Abraham, that he, himself, would be faithful to God.

So we come to our own lives.  What do we know.  If we are Christians, we know Jesus is real and a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.  Do we know it all?

1 Corinthians 13:12
” For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.”

We don’t understand yet, the importance of learning to take up the Yoke of Christ, of learning to walk with, not before or behind.  Elijah knew what the Lord wanted of him when he first approached Ahab.  He didn’t hear the Lords  voice, till after the message was delivered.

Levi and Simeon were obedient to the Lords will, and they said: “Should he treat our sister as a harlot? ”

Moses was obedient to the Lords will, when he murdered the Egyptian.   Phinious,  in his zeal for the Lord, killed the man and woman and stopped The Lords plague.

These men knew the Lords will and did it, before getting instructions from the Lord.  They all, walked with God, in obedience and faithfulness.

I dought the Lord calls people to murder today but I am sure He wants us to quit mudering defenceless babies, stop wilful and outright disobedience and learn to live within the parameters outlined in His Word.

Simply stated:  “LOVE GOD AND LOVE YOUR NEIGHBORS AS YOURSELF”

A small thing, that is the whole of the Law and Prophets.   Lord, please help us to this place.

Long overdue obituary –

This was my mother,  Dorothy Bell Currier Cote.  We buried her in August of 2013.  At the time, what is left of the family decided that since we had contacted what friends and family were left, we didn’t need an obituary.

I regret that decision now and wish to write a little about her.

She suffered  with Arthritis for close to 60 years, she died at 90.  I remember, in my youth, my father carried her up the stairs so she could come into her own house.

Her feet and hands were so deformed, it was painful to walk and impossible to open jars or click the button on a pen.

I don’t recall her complaining.  She just kept going. 

She ran a kindergarten for some years, worked as a secretary for a few years also.

Both my parents loved my sister,  brother and myself. 

She lived with my sister the last 9 years of her life and I would see her every year for a few weeks, to a month.  She would come and stay with us.

I am disappointed with myself for my lack of compassion,  mercy and failing to show her the love she deserved.

She wasn’t always easy to get along with,  I believe this was probably caused by unremitting pain.

Anyway Mom, I just want to say I’m sorry for so many things.  I wish we could re-live your last years.

I believe  that you did invite Jesus to forgive you on your death bed.  I believe that was the moment you found peace in your soul and walked away with Jesus.

Lord Jesus, please  forgive me my sins.  Mom, rest in peace.

Revelation

an uncovering, a bringing to light of that which had been previously wholly hidden or only obscurely seen. God has been pleased in various ways and at different times (Heb. 1:1) to make a supernatural revelation of himself and his purposes and plans, which, under the guidance of his Spirit, has been committed to writing.  (Bible – The Word of God )  (Eastons Bible Dictionary)

Word of God

(Heb. 4:12, etc.). The Bible so called because the writers of its several books were God’s organs in communicating his will to men. It is his “word,” because he speaks to us in its sacred pages. Whatever the inspired writers here declare to be true and binding upon us, God declares to be true and binding. This word is infallible, because written under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and therefore free from all error of fact or doctrine or precept.  (Eastons Bible Dictionary)

Everyone that studies the Word of God is eligible to receive Revelation. The first Revelation the Christian receives is the knowledge of sin, the need for repentance, the joy of discovering forgiveness and love, through the blood of Jesus Christ.

Unfortunately, too many quit searching there.  They don’t recognize the ability to find comfort, peace, the fulfillment of needs and desires, that Christ offers us.

Many search elsewhere,  writings, gurus, false prophets or angels.   Wading through the Bible is too hard, it’s not in order, those Biblical names and places are too difficult  to pronounce, or remember.

The Lord will fill us with the Spirit of God, a Spirit  of wisdom, understanding, knowledge and skill to build His Church.  The Gifts of the Spirit are available to whosoever will.  Most won’t.  Most seem to hold Church Doctrine or Rituals higher than the Word of God.

It is not.  We must know the Word. We must walk in that knowledge. When we do, we will receive Revelation Knowledge, we will understand how to Walk with God.   Jesus told us:
Matthew 11:28-30

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

The way we learn of the Lord is through His Word.  Martin Luther was a good Catholic, the Wesley brothers were good Episcopalians.  Then they studied the Word.

“Unless I am convinced by Scripture and plain reason I do not accept the authority of the popes and councils, for they have contradicted each other. My conscience is captive to the Word of God. I cannot and I will not recant anything for to go against conscience is neither right nor safe. Here I stand. I can do no other. God help me. Amen.”

Now we see through a glass, darkly;

Revelation came in a flash of light, to Martin Luther,  the Wesley brothers, to the founders of many Denominations.   To the men and women in many successful businesses.

An idea, a way of doing things,  a brand new product, an understanding of the Word of God, that has suddenly jumped off the page, opened your mind and heart.

You are  never able to view it, in the old understanding again.

When someone has a new understanding of a passage or verse from the Bible, we need to study to find out if it is the truth or a lie.

Does it line up with the rest of the Word?    Are there two or more Witnesses in the Word?

First, we must make sure we check it against the Word and not the Doctrine of our Church.   Martin Luther found the Word in disagreement with the Catholic Church Doctrine.    A new movement was born.

The Revelation I wish to share should not cause a problem, but build up the body of the Church.

The source for my study is the Bible,  I start with KJV, and check my understanding with other versions.   First the scriptures:

Matthew 25:14-31
” For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.

And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.”

The Parable of the talents, how often have I heard: “you should be playing piano at this  or that church, you have buried  your talents”?

I often wondered why it was only the piano player that did this?  How about the guy who knew how to make money?  The carpenter or plumber, electrician? Artist?

We seem to have a very limited view of this scripture. It’s either about money or physical talent.

A man is going away, he leaves something with his servants.   According to their ability to handle this thing.

” Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.

And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two.  But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord’s money.”

The one that received the most, (the one with the right attitude, and skills),  used these talents to increase.

The one who received two, according to his ability also increased his.

The one who received but one, hid the one, so, no increase at all.

” After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.”

You know the story, the two that increased received praise and more responsibility.  They heard: ” Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.”

Not so for the other:  ” Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:

Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.

Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.

For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.”

I believe the Lord used money and not piano playing for a reason, (pianos weren’t invented yet),  increase in cash is easy to visualize.

The problem with us is we treat this story as a Parable,  when in reality it is a Prophesy.

Jesus is Proclaiming His Death and Resurrection.

He is telling us, He is leaving something in our care that we must increase.   What could it be?

Money, skill with a paint brush or hammer?

NO, HE LEFT US THE SPIRIT.  The Spirit also, gave us gifts, they sit on the shelf, waiting to be acknowledged.  They are available to whosoever will.

To teach, guide, direct and protect us.  To lead us to all truth.   We have hid the Spirit in our Churches. Buried it, are afraid of it.

We must seek God, ask for the Wisdom we need to increase that which He has given us.

Like this old tractor, the church is dead, the framework is still intact but it can’t seem to go
anywhere.

We wonder why?
       *  There is sickness
       *  There is little power
       *  There is strife, rebellious people
       *  There is no repentance, holiness
There is sin, unbelief, idolatry in the body.

What is sin and  idolatry today?

Colossians 3:5

5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

Getting ready to finish teaching on the book of Joshua and start teaching  the book of Judges,  I am reminded once again that Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever.  Unfortunately, so are we.

The Hebrew peoples followed the Lord all the days of Joshua and the elders that saw the miracles of Egypt.  Then they fell away into sin and idolatry which leads to unbelief.

” the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and served Baalim:  they forsook the Lord God of their fathers, they forsook the Lord, and served Baal and Ashtaroth. the anger of the Lord was hot against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that spoiled them, and he sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies.  Whithersoever they went out, the hand of the Lord was against them for evil, ”  (selected verses from Judges 2)

This is the church,  we Worship our order of Worship.  Don’t you dare change anything.   We allow sin to abound, believe the Church Doctrine more than the Word.  Gay marriage, abortion, covetousness. ..

We do evil in the sight of the Lord, reject holiness, reject true praise and worship.  Then we wonder why things don’t work as we plan.

The Church needs to dig up the Talents the Master left us,  (Matthew 25 ).  He left us the Gifts of the Spirit,  we don’t believe they are for us, now.  We have the written word of God, we have no need of Words of Wisdom or Knowledge,  the Gift of Faith, the Working of Miracles.

Gifts of Healing,  Prophesy, Discerning of Spirits, heaven forbid tongues and interpretation.

We have buried the gifts, we will not hear.  “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”

Our leaders and teachers, Pastors need to learn to use and teach the Church what is available to whosoever will but they won’t believe in, never mind ask for and use the Gifts.

The Church today is no different than the Hebrews in Judges.  We need the Spiritual gifts to bring people to and keep them in the love and grace of God.

” the people lifted up their voice, and wept.”

This is what the Hebrews did in Egypt and through out the book of Judges.  The Lord answered these prayers.

” And when the Lord raised them up judges, then the Lord was with the judge, and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge: for it repented the Lord because of their groanings by reason of them that oppressed them and vexed them.”

The Lord hears and answers our cries but when we cry out, it must be effectual, fervent prayer. ..this only happens when it comes from our innermost parts.

Our pretty, public Church prayers are not that.

We have temptations, evil, sin all around us for a reason.

Lord, help me to walk with You, to love, obey and share Your love.  May I learn to increase the Gifts of the Spirit in my life and the life of Your Church .

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.   And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.”

The Words of Jesus from John 14.  Is the Father glorified in the Son in your life?  Your Church? Your Walk with God?

Jesus said: “ whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.”

Is that true?  Are there any conditions?

We must believe : 

James  2:23
“And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.”

We believe the Lord for Salvation, why?

For me it was the weight of my sins being lifted from my Sprint, I asked for forgiveness and felt forgiven.  The presence of the Lord became real within me.

Jesus  continually said:
“If you believe ”
Only believe ”
“If you can only believe ”
“Believe  only”

James gives a good reason our prayers aren’t answered.

James 4:3
“Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.”

Are our hearts wrong when we ask for healings, provision, comfort or peace? 

Why can we not believe, even when it is right in front of us? 

” Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. ”    My reason :

I am not worthy.   I am saved, sanctified, holy ghost filled and water baptized but not trustworthy.  

I can get a big head quickly and believe He used me because I am special; instead of available.   He has tried me and He found me wanting.

Lord, I long to be a vessel of use for You.  Humble, obedient, reliable.  I ask You to forgive my failures and create in me a heart that is true to You.  A mind and Spirit that hungers and thirsts for Your Righteousness.  Make me a useful vessel.

Do all men seek Him?  I don’t believe they know it, but yes.  Looking constantly in the wrong places,  for the feelings, emotions,  help, wealth or happiness.

It is too simple, even silly to believe a God died for me.  Why would a God demand sacrifices, worship, praise. ….what does He think He is?  God?

What is a Creator,  Supreme Ruler, Lord….?    In our minds, “We are”.

The problem explained.

We don’t look up and see the Majesty of God.  We can see pretty pictures in color on our TV’S or Tablets.  Trees, lakes, waves, insects, no big deal it a evolved.  A big mistake. Climate Change is what we need to worry about. 

We are destroying,  what just happened, by accident. …things have just lived and died the strong survive, until now.  We must not let it continue, save the whales….kill the babies.

Up is down, right is wrong, God is dead.

All men seek Thee.  Yes, He healed the sick, gave comfort to the brokenhearted, they found,  peace, joy, love.

We need to give these things.   The Lord gave us the Holy Spirit to comfort, guide, direct and correct us.  We let Him comfort and forget the rest.

All men will seek Him, when those who believe,  become like Him.

We try on many masks, put on many personalities.  Hide our true feelings, hurts, troubles.

We pretend to be someone or something stronger, better, smarter, more compassionate, giving, thoughtful, then we are.

The truth?

We are man….helpless, lost and alone.  There is nothing good within.  Our Righteousness is as filthy rags.

We seek but do not accept the truth. 

There is only one way to perfect peace.  Only one who gives joy unspeakable.

Put on Christ,  accept Him as Lord and Savior.  Follow Him, allow Him to correct, direct and protect you.

As He shines through, the masks we wear fall away.
Love overcomes all else.  Love never fails.

Waiting for the Doctor, noticed the shadow.  Only there for a short time.  Then gone.

Life, at its longest is but a moment, compared to eternity.

This shadow of things to come.   Life is meant to  give us the opportunity to serve others and Our Lord. 

What have we done with our opportunity?

Know Jesus…….know yourself. …find rest.

She was beautiful, sleek, quick, hardy, much loved, well used, had seen many profitable days.

Today?  Sad, broken, alone, only useful for storing  junk,  taking up space, unprofitable, forgotten….neglected.

The new baby, is all wonderfull, full of promise, hope, joy, dreams….expectations.   Then life kicks in.  Getting kicked takes away most of the joy of life.

Man becomes aware that he is not complete.  He needs more:  Money, a new love, excitement ,  (sports car, motorcycle, boat, sky diving).  Always looking outside himself for completion.

These are not bad desires:  They just are not the answer.  They will not make us complete.

Remember Joe 6 pack.  He works hard every day,  home to wife, kids and TV.  Not a bad guy, fulfills his obligations, maybe even goes to church on Sundays.    Hasn’t met the Lord, or known the Lord personally…… Lost.

How to be completed?

Whosoever will, that is what I  need to remember.   As a man that Loves the Lord, I must do my best to love all, walk in Wisdom towards them that are without. …allow Jesus to be bigger than my wants, desires, actions.

Hope that people see Jesus, that they see a man that reflects Godly virtue and truth.  A man, whose life, leads  to Righteousness.  A profitable man.  A man who will lead.

Lord, may people recognize You, through me.
