3 Lords of the Old Testament

The English language translation of the Old Testament is troublesome.   We have one English word that we use for 3 different Hebrew/Chaldee words.   The word that is so overused is Lord.

In Genesis 1 we find that God (Elohim in the Hebrew/Chaldee language and means Creator/Ruler), created the heaven and earth.  And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.  The Ruach or breath or breeze of Elohim moved upon the face of the waters.

We see the Lord mentioned for the first time here:
Genesis 2:4
King James Version (KJV)
4 These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens,

The Lord mentioned in Genesis 2:4 is from the Hebrew word Yahweh,  which the Hebrew people were not allowed to speak.   So they  added a few vowels to make it Yahovah, which in turn we made Jehovah.   Which means the  Self Existent or  Eternal One.   This is the word used must often for the God of Old Testament,  the law, or as I think of Him, Father God.

We have the word lord translated from the Hebrew word Adoni,  which means a physical man, a ruler, rich man of that time.

Than we have The Lord from the word Adonay,  another name for the Lord,  which means Sovereign Controller.

Psalm 110:1
King James Version (KJV)
110 The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.       Jehovah said to Adonay.   So I read it as the Father talking to the Son.

  1. Perhaps this little study may put things in perspective. Care to take a look?

To the newborn, the eager student and the seasoned scholar alike, a few links to pages discussing errors in Bible translations.  It is a pity that there is intolerance for finding errors and correcting them, therefore, a camel instead of a rope will forever struggle to pass through the eye of a needle. Or celibate believers will wrongly be called eunuchs and actually contradict His Word!  Please dedicate some time to work through this is you like to get to the Truth.

Some translation errors can even be hilarious, really stock for laughing at, while others are sad and cause society to err.  Reading through the pages below might amuse you endlessly

Such translation error that I find offensive and even blasphemous is the one of “Holy Ghost.”
