2 Peter 1:5-7 Study The Fix-it Shop-Filling Station

As we continue on, the first words of verse 5 seem confusing. “And beside this” but it simply means since: “having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”  We need to continue growing in Jesus.

Peter then gives us a list that is quite close to the Fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5.

2 Peter: 1. 5-7
And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;   And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;  And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.”

These 2 lists are close.

Galatians 5:22
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

giving all diligence,”
We must learn to be consistent, methodical in our prayer and study life.  Like  Appointment TV…get into a rhythm, let God set His watch by your consistency. (Wish I was more consistent. ..do as I say…).

add to your faith”  “faith”
We start out with a measure of faith.  We build up our most Holy Faith by praying in the Holy Spirit and learning the Word.  As we exercise our Faith we must learn to exercise virtue.

What is virtuegoodness
Morality, modesty, honesty, character. ….all the things our politicians don’t understand. As we grow in God these virtues should be growing also.

“Knowledge:”   “peace”
See Study 2 Peter 1:2

temperance”  “temperance “
Moderation in food, drink, speech, actions, life.  Even sharing our faith…in love….
Philippians 4:5
King James Version (KJV)
Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.

patience”  “longsuffering”
James 1:2-8
My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.”

Learn to wait on the Lord, in peace and joyfully.  Somehow I missed “Godliness”  In 2 Peter 1:3, so here it is:

godliness”  “gentleness”
Timothy 4:7
King James Version (KJV)
But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.”
Timothy 4:8
King James Version (KJV)
For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.”
Timothy 6:6
King James Version (KJV)
But godliness with contentment is great gain.”
2 Timothy 3:5
Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.”

Abstain from lude and rude activities, be content, “believe God is and He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.”  Don’t pretend to be Holy, strive to be Holy.

“brotherly kindness;”  “Meekness”
Brotherly love, fellowship, you don’t always have to be right, the best, the boss.

charity”  “love, joy”
“They will know you are my disciples by your love.”  “This is My commandment that you love one another. “

Like fruit, it takes time, nourishment, (the Word), and water, (prayer), to grow and be consumed and accepted as sweet comfort to the lost.

2 Peter: 1. 5-8
And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;   And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;  And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.”

I understand these aren’t a great match, but you get the idea.

Lord, help us to grow in you.

2 Peter 1:3 Study – The Fix-it Shop-Filling Station

A very long post, sorry.

I hope this study is helpful to my Bible class.  I am trying to teach how to dig into the Word and understand the meaning themselves.  It’s funny before Salvation, you could not get me to study anything,  now I hate to stop.

Let’s look at 2 Peter 1:3.

2 Peter: 1. 3.
According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:”

Devine (Godly), Power, what is this?  Resurrection, Healing, Words of Wisdom and Knowledge, Faith…ect.

Matthew 22:29
King James Version (KJV)
“Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.”

How is God’s Power manifested?

2 Peter 1:2 – Teaching Outline. – The Fix-it Shop-Filling Station

This post will not be so long but I  believe interesting nevertheless.

2 Peter 1:2
Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,”

“Grace and peace be multiplied unto you”
Grace, Gods unmerited Mercy and Favor is the typical explanation of its meaning,  but looking from its first mention:

“Noah found Grace in the sight of the Lord”

To Paul and sin and Grace is sufficient,  I believe we could substitute Salvation for Grace in many places.

Peace, is the Peace of God in the midst of our problems, strife of life, hurts and bad health.  It is the “Peace that passes understanding.”

Multiplied. …really?

through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,”

2 Peter 1:1 – Teaching Outline -The Fix-it Shop-Filling Station

As we look at 2 Peter 1:1,  We will try to understand his writings,  verse by verse, and sometimes word for word.   The common meanings and understandings can be different from how we perceive them.  So please allow me, to tell us, what we probably  already know.

2 Peter: 1. 1.
Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:”

Peter starts out telling us who he is:
A servant:
When he says servant he isn’t talking about the guy who mows your lawn or the nice lady that comes in once a week to clean.

The word used for Servant of Christ, means Bond Slave or Love Slave.  In Biblical times you could become a slave if you didn’t pay your debts,  and stay a slave for 7 years or until the debt was paid.

Sometimes people were treated so well, they asked to stay provided for, cared for, protected by their Master.  He would back them up to the edge of the door and make a hole in their earlobe with an awl.

partakers of? – The Fix-it Shop-Filling Station

Do you realize how much we partake in, (share, take part of or become like), the things and qualities of the world, or of God?   We really need to become more aware of what is entering our minds, bodies and souls.

Is it life and truth or death and destruction?

Given unto us:

Have you ever considered the wonders the Lord has “given unto us”?  In the Old Testament the Blessings were tangible, physical, observable.

Stir up thyself

Do you know people who are always stirring things up?  Confusion, Strife, Upheavals, Discontent, all seem to be their best friends?

Do they seem angry, proud, full of wrath or hatred?   Do we?  Am I?

Vain, me? – The Fix-it Shop-Filling Station

I used to laugh at my brother as he aged and his hair and beard constantly went from grey to an unnatural brown.  How vain is he? I  thought to myself…..not me.

I was always skinny,  I could eat anything and not gain weight.  Then I  turned thirty and somehow a pot belly had appeared.   That’s ok, my wife married me anyway.

My grey, now, that implyed only wisdom,  not age.  No problem.

Then eating regular,  suddenly I was overweight.   An impossibly I was sure,  till I looked in the mirror or tried to see my feet.

That was bad enough.

Then my belly erupted. …no hair dye would help, exercise, (not gonna happen), I was stuck and unhappy.   Then it got worse.

First, a foolish lift of a heavy piano, I felt it, something ripped. My beautiful dime sized belly button slowly evolved into a tennis ball attached to an already over sized waist.

Then a kidney removed. I thought I would have a indentation,  nope, a small ripple, a roll was on my side.  Now 7 years later it is a soccer ball.

I find myself a side show,  pay your 25 cents and see the deformed human.  I am really ashamed of my shape.  Even if I, at this late date, exercised and lost a lot of this belly,  I would still have a tennis and soccer ball with me at all times.

Vain? You bet.  Ashamed? Absolutely.  Wanting to hide?  Yep.

Vain and ashamed incorporated.   Forgive me Lord.

“and they followed vanity, and became vain”

Lord, help me to follow You.

the Lord preserved David: The Fix-it Shop-Filling Station

“the Lord preserved David whithersoever he went.”

Four times the Bible tells us the the Lord protected, promoted and propelled David ahead of all others.  Wherever he went and whatever he did.  The way was made straight for him.

Why?  Because he was a man after Gods own heart.  David understood how a Godly ruler, exercised supreme authority.

image

Proverbs 29:2
When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.”

David was a righteous man.  Who can find a righteous man?

The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life:”

“A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast:”

“A righteous man hateth lying:”

Can any of us live up to these Testimonials of A Righteous Man?  Are our Words a well of life?  Do we hate lying?  Do we take care of that which serves us?

God promoted David, because David promoted Godly virtues and character,  he stood with and before his people.  The people rejoiced in his service.

The law wasn’t given because of men like David,  Noah, Enoch, Abraham or Moses.

No the law was given for the likes of you and me.

1 Timothy 1:9-10
King James Version (KJV)
Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,

For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;”

Without Jesus, I am all of  the above,  even with Jesus,  my carnal self wars with the Spiritual, and all too often, wins.

We must constantly agree with James if we are to be effective,  consistent and promoted servants of the Lord.

James 5:16
King James Version (KJV)
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”

David lived a life a life after Gods own heart, a life that included repentance, remorse, a heart seeking to be Holy, Acceptable unto God.

David knew this to be but his reasonable service.  He also knew:

the Lord preserved David whithersoever he went.   And David reigned over all Israel; and David executed judgment and justice unto all his people.”

image

David decided to fill himself with Godly principles, wisdom  and intent.

We, like this empty jug, can be made  full.   What are we full of?

Micah 6:8
King James Version (KJV)
He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?”

Hasn’t God shown us?  Can we not understand, believe, and walk in His will?

Lord, help us to be useful, effective servants.  People deserving of promotion, protection and of being propelled to lead Your chosen.

in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias: The Fix-it Shop-Filling Station

Or:  “Help me get this beam out of my eye!”

I am a Right Wing, Spirit Filled, Conservative Christian.  I have spent the last 5 years in a church that loves the Lord but doesn’t believe the things of the Spirit are  for today.

They believe :
“Jesus died for me, saved me from eternal hell fire, but lied about the Gifts of the Spirit,  Signs, Wonders and Miracles being for me.”

Why do they believe this instead of what the Bible clearly states?
What they have been taught, seen and heard all their lives.  PERSONAL EXPERIENCE.

mightily grew the word of God: The Fix-it Shop-Filling Station

Acts 19:20
“So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.”

Is the Word growing mightily in you?  Is the Word truth?  Is the Word winning the fight between the Carnal and Spiritual man within?

In my life the Carnal man gets the victory all too often.   Why?

My Carnal man lacks nothing,  I supply almost all it desires and deny  it very few pleasures.  It is the side of me I am concerned about, pay attention to, I treat it like a crying baby.

Meanwhile my Spiritual man is starving.  I go to church once a week, I don’t read the Bible regularly.   I only pray when in crisis and wonder why my prayers only reach the ceiling.

The problem is not God or His Word.

It is the lack of both,  that allowed the Carnal man to control and  lead me astray.

The Word  can grow mightily and prevail.

It will when I feed it, love it and watch over it .

A Sun and Shield: Psalm 84 : 11-12 – 4 – The Fix-it Shop-Filling Station

Psalm 84:11-12

King James Version (KJV)

” For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.  O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.”

The final phrase:

“O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.”

     》O Lord of Hosts:
He is no longer telling us who and what the Lord God is and does.  Now he is speaking  to the Lord Himself.  Letting Him know that the Psalmist recognized the blessings of God, that are available to those who trust Him.

     》Blessed is the man:
Blessed,  happy, fortunate, to be envied is the man, the individual, that knows the Lord enough to trust Him.

     》Trusteth in Thee:
O Lord,  that we would learn to trust, to rest in You, to believe You are and You are a rewarder of them that diligently seek You.

A Sun and Shield: Psalm 84:11-12 – 3 -The Fix-it Shop-Filling Station

Psalm 84:11-12
King James Version (KJV)
For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.  O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.”

The Lord God IS:

I believe this to be  one of the biggest stumbling blocks, we have as the body of Christ.  We Believe the Power, Salvation, Sanctification, Word of Christ,  was and will be but isn’t for today.

When we learn and sing a song like this, we encourage ourselves in the Lord,  we become stronger as we sing of His Glory.

Today let’s look at :

“no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.”

     》No good thing:
Is there a definition of Good Things?

Philippians 4:8
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

I believe good things are those things that cause us to seek a closer walk with God.

Psalm 34:10
The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the Lord shall not want any good thing.”

Psalm 92:1 (another great song of prsise)
It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O Most High:

Romans 7:18
For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not”

Some may think getting a big blessing of money would be wonderful,  and it would, if we could handle the money correctly.   Would you?

We  inherited, for us a good sum of money,  it only took us ten years to fritter it away, did we invest, nope,  spent on daily needs and desires.

It could have been a wonderful blessing, longterm.    Instead it is gone.

We should be looking for Spiritual blessings, instead of worldly.  Good things for eternity.   That Iines up with the rest of this thought.

no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.”

     》from them that walk uprightly.

Always a catch, I love you, you must love Me.  How do we do that?  By walking uprightly,  in Him, in His Yoke.  Doing His will and touching those He has chosen.

Do not cast your Pearls before swine, but be ready to share Gods love as He directs.  Sometimes a single word, of His, will bring results where our Words sounded hollow,  empty.

We must be instant in season and out, ready to explain our love and trust.

For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.   O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.”     Psalm 84:11-12

This scripture  has been my recurring song of  praise the last few months.

Such a promise, a beautiful tune…it tells what God is, what the Lord gives, His promise of all good things to those who walk uprightly, (in His ways).  He blesses those who trust in Him.

gift of God -The Fix-it Shop-Filling Station

Have we received the Gift of God?  Do we realize all that phrase entails?   Salvation,  the Gifts of the Spirit in Romans 12 and 1 Corinthians 12,  the Baptism in the Holy Spirit,  abundance. …

The phrase the “Gift of God” is most often used concerning Salvation:  Here we find the Samaritan woman at the well, Jesus asked her for a drink.  She was incredulous, Jewish people aren’t supposed to interact with Samaritans.

In John 4:20
“Jesus said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God,  thou wouldest have asked and he would have given thee living water.”

What?  This is crazy.  Living Water?   She would come to understand.

image

Galatians: 2. 20.
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”

Salvation is the living water.

John: 4. 14.
But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.”

John: 7. 37-39
In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.  He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)”

Acts: 13. 48.
And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.”

Ephesians 2:8
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:”

Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

So it is sad when we neglect such a gift.  Every man is given a measure of faith, the Salvation measure,  will you believe and receive?

Jeremiah: 2. 13.
For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.”

Salvation,  the most Important Gift of God to whosoever will receive.  There is more, Salvation is not the only Gift of God,  here Paul is speaking about remaining single…..not my gift.

1 Corinthians 7:7
For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.”

How do we receive our particular  Gift?   Timothy received his by the laying on of hands.

2 Timothy 1:6
Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.”

Here we learn again we must do something, first we must repent and accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior,  after that we must stir up the Gift of God.

How do we stir up the Gift?   We build our faith by reading and doing the Word, praying in the Holy Spirit.

We stir up our gift, (ministry, encouragement, comforting, teaching, healing, listening, Pastor, Prophet. ..ect), by doing.

We find some trying to receive the Gift of God, for their own Glory.

Acts 8:20
“But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.”

The Gift of God cannot be purchased but the Gift of God can be abundance of wealth and lands….  The poor are not any more Holy or obedient or blessed by God, it could be they cannot be trusted with more.

People receive according to their abilities.   God continues to bless us with enough and a bit more than enough, to pay our bills and enjoy life.

The few times we have had excess, inheritance, we have not increased it, but slowly spent it away.  Truth does indeed hurt.

Some are better stewards and can enjoy the fruit.

Ecclesiastes 3:13
And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.”

Ecclesiastes 5:19
Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God. ”

Hebrews 13:5
King James Version (KJV)
Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”

1 Timothy 6:8
King James Version (KJV)
And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.”

Philippians 4:11
King James Version (KJV)
Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.”

So, you don’t have a ministry preaching to thousands, or you don’t lay hands on the sick and they recover? Maybe you aren’t leading all you meet to the Lord?
You mean signs and wonders aren’t following?

Be a witness to the one you are with, in times of trouble, grief, hardships and even in times of joy. LET THE LOVE OF CHRIST SHINE THROUGH. The Gift of God is best received by sharing.

“Billism” Truth or Fiction – The Fix-it Shop-Filling Station

What is a “Billism”?

Simply put a “Billism” is a truth I have found in the Word, that I personally have not heard anyone else teach.

Does that mean no one else has seen it?

No, many have probably seen these and not found them important enough to share or have shared them and gotten the Ho Hum responce I receive, and quit mentioning them.

To me, they are a revelation of the Lord, They do not effect  basic Christian Doctrine but do draw me in to a fresh knowledge of the Lord.  They cause me to study the scriptures to see if they are true.

I don’t share them unless I believe I have Biblical evidence to support them.

What disapoints me is so many could care less, or reject it out of hand, because they were never taught it.  Do they check out the scripture to see if it’s true?

Nope, Nada, Not going to happen,  God didn’t show them, so it cannot be truth.

I wish they would think about how many Denominations there are and maybe see why they were founded.  Not all church splits are about the color of the carpets.

Luther was a good Catholic, till he discovered salvation by faith alone.    We need to study the word and recognize what it really means, not just what you have been taught it means.

Please open your eyes and ears, listen to what the Lord is saying today.
