Who was Barnabas?
First off a man who gave up all, to follow Jesus:
“Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus, Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.”
A man who recognized the hand of God in Pauls life and took him to the brothers.
“Barnabas took him, and brought him to the apostles, and declared unto them how he had seen the Lord in the way, and that he had spoken to him, and how he had preached boldly at Damascus in the name of Jesus.”
They recognized God’s hand in his life:
“For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord.”
He had the witness of the Holy Spirit :
“the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.”
They trusted him with financial blessing for others, because he had given all:
“And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away. Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judaea:”
Which also they did, and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.”
The Lord expanded their reach:
“Sergius Paulus, a prudent man; who called for Barnabas and Saul, and desired to hear the word of God.”
“And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God.Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.”
“It seemed good unto us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men unto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul”
“Paul also and Barnabas continued in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord. “
Lord, help me to be a Barnabas, someone You can trust, with the Word and Power of Your might, with Your finances to provide for your people.
Lord, that I would be worthy of Your trust!!!!
