Stir up thyself: The Fix-it Shop-Filling Station

Stir up thyself

Do you know people who are always stirring things up?  Confusion, Strife, Upheavals, Discontent, all seem to be their best friends?

Do they seem angry, proud, full of wrath or hatred?   Do we?  Am I?

Proverbs 29:22
King James Version (KJV)
An angry man stirreth up strife, and a furious man aboundeth in transgression.

These things lead to the buzzards. …beware.

Proverbs 28:25
He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in the Lord shall be made fat.”

Proverbs 15:18
A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.

Proverbs 10:12
Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.”

Proverbs 15:1
A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.”

Love and a soft answer, being slow to anger, trusting in the Lord.  That is the side of those scriptures we must live in and strive to conquer.

The religious stirred up the people against Jesus, the Apostles and the Truth of the Gospel.   We are called to “Stir up thyself. “

Obviously the Book doesn’t want us to cause discontent in His Body.  He would have us:

Stir up the love and grace we have received,  so we would share it with others.  That others would see and desire a life with Jesus.

2 Peter 3:1
This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:”

2 Timothy 1:6
Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.”

The “Gift of God “…  Don’t stop reading. …Do you know what the Gifts are?  (Other than 1 Corinthians 12 -14).

Romans 12:6-8
Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;

Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching;

Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.”

These are some of the Gifts we need to stir up, to exercise, build up in our Spiritual Bodies.

Our problems come from not stirring ourselves up..we get lazy in religion,  complacent in study,   apathetic in prayer.

Isaiah 64:6-8
King James Version (KJV)
But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

And there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee: for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us, because of our iniquities.

But now, O Lord, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.”

It hurts and humbles me to realize that I am the “work of his hand”  and like some pianos I put my hand to, “this is the best, the most useful, I will be?” ……. “Is this my best?”

Or dare I seek more, …more of Jesus,… more Faith, …more Holy Spirit in my life.

To be a more useful and effective vessel of His love.

Is it possible for me to be “a man after Gods heart? “

Isaiah 64:4
For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.”

I believe I can be such a man and so can you.  We must “STIR UP THYSELF “….

We must do it ourselves.  A good sermon can point us in the right direction, lead us to the path, but FAITH Requires ACTION.

We must Stir up our Faith.

Isaiah 10:27
King James Version (KJV)
And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.”

The Yoke of Sin, Anger, Wrath, Strife, Jealously can all be broken.   When we learn to “”Stir up”, The Holy Spirit within and put on the Yoke of Christ.

That is when we will walk in His Anointing.   Lord, help us to understand.

  1. …the yoke on one’s neck – a very descriptive analogy of those who pull their hatred, strife, envy, etc along wherever they go. It is for our benefit that God desires us to put those things asunder.
