“For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.   O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.”     Psalm 84:11-12

This scripture  has been my recurring song of  praise the last few months. 

Such a promise, a beautiful tune…it tells what God is, what the Lord gives, His promise of all good things to those who walk uprightly, (in His ways).  He blesses those who trust in Him.

I would like to look a bit closer at this:

“For the Lord God is a sun and shield:”

The Lord God IS:
     》We must believe He IS and He IS a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him. 

This verse from Hebrews 11, to me is the best definition of Faith. 

He is not once was, or sometime soon, HE IS NOW, HE MEETS US NOW,  WHERE WE ARE.  My God shall supply all my needs, according to His riches in glory.  Today, now  as we have need.

The Lord God is a Sun:
     》A Sun:
God said:  “Let there be light, and It was so, and it was good.”  God is a Sun, the light of our lives, a lamp to our path.

Psalm 119:105
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

Proverbs 4:18
“But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.”

The Sun gives us warmth, comfort, provides food and drink, God will wipe away our tears.

Revelation 7:16-17
King James Version (KJV)
“ They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat.  For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.”

The Lord God is a Shield :
     》A Shield, to protect us from the fiery darts of the wicked one.  His Word is the Shield.  His Word created all that was created.

His Word is what Jesus used to defeat temptation.   We must have it within, it must be a part of us, for it to be useful.

Proverbs 30:5
“Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.”

2 Samuel 22:3
“The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.”

Psalm 84:8-10
King James Version (KJV)
“O Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer: give ear, O God of Jacob. Selah.  Behold, O God our shield, and look upon the face of thine anointed.

For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.”

Is The Lord God your Sun, is it Him that comforts, guides and directs you?  Is He your shield?   Are His Words your weapon of choice?

Lord, help us to realize who You are.  To Worship You in Spirit and truth.
