2 Peter 1:9
” But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.”
Are you lacking in anything? I am. Why? Because I am not the man of God that I long to be. Why? Because I am blind, I have allowed the Old Man to dominate in my life. I lack the wisdom and willingness to truly follow my Lord.
Self will overcomes selflessness, pride, greed, lust overcomes service and love for others. What must I do to correct my wrong headedness?
Seek that which I lack:
Do you want more Godliness, Wisdom, understanding and knowledge of God?
If so you must learn more of Him, draw closer to Him,, dig into His Word, be doers of His will, learn to Walk with Him.
This is just the first step into the Holy of Holies, the place we find mercy and grace in our times of need.
2 Peter 1:5-7
” And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.”
diligence:
:persistent personal attention : We must become diligent in our study, prayer and seeking of God.
This will help us increase our Faith.
Faith:
If you believe in and asked Jesus to be your Lord and Savior, than you already have Salvation Faith. The Faith we need is the Faith that Abraham had, that was counted to him for Righteousness.
He believed: God is: and is: a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.
Virtue :
:morally good behavior or character
As our Faith grows, so also our Virtue should be more pronounced. We should have better control over our mouth, hands and eyes. (Tall order this.)
Knowledge :
: information, understanding, or skill that you get from experience or education
: awareness of something : the state of being aware of something
As we gain more information of and about the Lord, we become aware that He is more then we can ask, think or imagine. He is Awesome, He is all we need. When He is All We Desire; we will be all we can be, in Him.
Temperance :
: the practice of always controlling your actions, thoughts, or feelings so that you do not eat or drink too much, become too angry, etc.
Nuff said.
Patience :
: able to remain calm and not become annoyed when waiting for a long time or when dealing with problems or difficult people
: done in a careful way over a long period of time without hurrying
James 1:4
King James Version (KJV)
“But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.”
I am afraid being annoyed seem to be my natural state. How about you?
Godliness :
: believing in God and in the importance of living a moral life
Brotherly kindness :
: showing or suggesting the love and closeness of a brother
: the quality or state of being kind
Charity :
Charity
(1 Cor. 13), the rendering in the Authorized Version of the word which properly denotes love, and is frequently so rendered (always so in the Revised Version). It is spoken of as the greatest of the three Christian graces (1 Cor. 12:31-13:13).
The God kind of love.
All but the definition of Charity, are from Websters Dictionary, surprisingly the only words defined in Eastons Bible Dictionary were brother and charity.
It seems a long list but they all build on each other, if you are diligent in study it will lead to faith and so on.
So I encourage us all to Diligence.
