The Keys 3: theunfetteredpreacher

There is not just one key to the kingdom, but many keys that unlock the numerous mysteries of our Faith.

The first was the key to enter the Kingdom. The belief and confession that Jesus is Lord. ‘Thou art the Christ, the son of the living God.’

This Key gave us permission and standing, before a Holy God. To enter into His presence to find Mercy and Grace in our times of need.

This seems to be the extent of our desires. It is enough, I have my passport to heaven. We do not seem receptive to the other promises of God.

If we could ‘only believe,’ the Lord would be leading an army, performing His will in this world today.

John 14:12-14

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.”

The promise is dismissed, ignored, rejected by us today. Why?

It costs too much to walk in it. We are not willing to pay the price of admission.

Jesus sent them out 2 by 2. Matthew 10: 1.

‘And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.’

They found they could cast out unclean spirits, and heal all manner of sicknesses, as they were walking in His will.

Then they came to a spirit that would not obey.

The Disciples asked why could we not cast out this Spirit? (Mark 9: 29) “And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.”

The power to bind and release promised in Matthew 16, one of the keys He gave us, costs us to learn its use.

We must know Him, and the power of His resurrection, and be made into His likeness, (Philippians 3:10) if we desire to walk in His Power and Will.

He cast out the Legion, healed all the sick he encountered. He gave us the power to do the same. But the Church is lame.

We fail to give up self and seek His will. We have failed, when He commanded us to wait for the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 1:4-5)

If we were obedient, we would be walking in the Power of the Holy Spirit. He gave us His Spirit, to build His Assembly, His Church, His Body.

These are Keys to the Kingdom of God. He would have us build His Kingdom, using His Keys.

Our problem is we use Man’s plan, instead of God’s. We tend to want results, in our time, under our control.

Then we can claim victory. God wants us to trust Him, give Him the Glory, relying on His Wisdom and Grace.

Will we?

The Keys to the Kingdom 2: theunfetteredpreacher

Who do you say I Am? (Asked Jesus) Simon Peter answered,

“You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Jesus said: ‘on this rock I will build my assembly.’

On this Rock, the belief and confession that Jesus is Lord. On this will He build His Church. This avails us the Key to entering Heaven. This is what saves us from eternal damnation.

It is interesting to me to notice only Matthew uses the term, the Kingdom of Heaven, the other Gospels all use the Kingdom of God.

At first, I considered that there may be a difference, but Matthew 19:23-24, he uses both terms.

The difference I do see is Matthew tells who will enter the Kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:10,19,20). The poor in Spirit, the Righteous, those who are like little children.

In the other Gospels, there is another perspective.

Jesus speaking to a scribe, who knew to love God and your neighbor were the 1st and 2nd Commandments. Jesus said: “Thou art not far from the kingdom of God.” (Mark 12:34)

In Luke, He spoke of the poor and that the KOG, has and must suffer violence. (Lke 6:20; 7:28)

As we read through Luke, we find the preaching and showing of the KOG. By healing and casting out devils.

In Luke 17:20-21 We find out the Kingdom of God is within us. In John 3, we must be Born Again to enter.

Romans 14: 17 tells us:

For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

1 Corinthians 4: 20.

‘For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.’

1 Corinthians 6:9-10

‘Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,

Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.’

We must be Righteous, believe like a child, we should see the Power of God in our ministries.

I believe the binding and releasing are the results of healing or casting out devils, no more complex than that.

The Keys of the Kingdom 1: theunfetteredpreacher

It The Keys of the Kingdom of Heaven: Were given to Peter, (and to us), not because Peter was a Rock. (Matthew 16:16-19)

The Rock or Foundation of our Faith lies in Peters proclamation of who Jesus is. “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

I have heard many teachings on these scriptures, and most of them have left me confused. I would like to share my opinion, I am not a scholar or an apologist, just a guy who reads the Word, and follows the Holy Spirits leading.

The Scriptures in question only appear in the book of Matthew the 16th chapter.

Jesus asks, ‘Peter who do you say I am?’ Verses 16-20

Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. I also tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock, I will build my assembly, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it. I will give to you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will have been bound in heaven, and whatever you release on earth will have been released in heaven.

Binding and releasing, building His assembly, ( His church),
and the gates of hell will not destroy it. How’s that working for us? Most Churches are about 60 to 100 people a Sunday, and the people are Sunday morning Go to Meeting folks.

They love and profess the Lord, but do not give Him much more than an hour a week. Oh, some read devotionals and pray a bit, but most do not care to be more.

Like the Hebrews, let the Pastor talk to God, and he can tell us what to do. Sad.

The Lord wants to Fellowship in the garden or your upper room in the cool of the day. He desires a one on one relationship, we can be as close to God, as we allow God into our lives.

He healed all that were afflicted, taught and fed 5,000, had 12 close to Him, 3 even closer, but only one had his head on His breast.

That one was at the cross. Where were the rest? You know only one died a natural death.

We have the relationship we choose.

So, if He has given us ‘The Keys to the Kingdom of Heaven’?

What are they, and where have they gone, it seems to me, we lost them? I believe we can find and use them mightily
once again for our God.

Not just in Biblical Times: theunfetteredpreacher

I try to read at least one of the Psalms or Proverbs a day, as my devotional. Today It happened to be Psalm 12. Not much has changed since the time of David.

Psalm 12:1-8

“Help, Yahweh; for the godly man ceases. For the faithful fail from among the children of men. Everyone lies to his neighbor. They speak with flattering lips, and with a double heart. May Yahweh cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that boasts, who have said, “With our tongue we will prevail. Our lips are our own. Who is lord over us?” “Because of the oppression of the weak and because of the groaning of the needy, I will now arise,” says Yahweh; “I will set him in safety from those who malign him.” The words of Yahweh are flawless words, as silver refined in a clay furnace, purified seven times. You will keep them, Yahweh. You will preserve them from this generation forever. The wicked walk on every side, when what is vile is exalted among the sons of men.” For the Chief Musician. It is as hard today, as it has always been, to be Holy, Sanctified, Faithfull and True. We have the same distractions and temptations, as everyman has. it has just made it into our private homes by way of the Internet and TV.

There are sin and evil in all but the best Christian content, and there isn’t enough Good Christian content to keep us entertained in our free time.

I know many have sworn off the TV and the Internet, but do most of us? I watch the original NCIS and Blue Bloods as my only appointment TV, and Netflix otherwise. There is still too much sin condoned and promoted to keep my mind renewed and faith increased.

It is easy to say, ‘It’s legal, so it must be ok to be full of what used to be, (and still is), SIN.

IT ISN’T!

We are called to be Holy, set apart, witnesses of God’s Grace, Mercy, and Love. We fail to read and meditate on the Word daily, to be diligent in the pursuit of Godliness, to pray and expect the Lord to act.

“The wicked walk on every side, when what is vile is exalted among the sons of men.”

We must walk apart.

I am Somewhat Tickled: theunfetteredpreacher

It tickles me, when I hear people complain about the successful ministries, while attending little churches, (all of, once a week).

They Truly believe they are Holy, Sanctified, Right with God, and those other Churches aren’t.

I have to ask, what does it take to be saved? Must we be the poor, the few, the beat down?

Is it possible to be rich and still love and serve the Lord? What makes us Saved?

To believe and confess, Jesus as Lord and Savior of our lives. You do not agree with the message of these ministries.

Do they not proclaim Jesus as Lord? We don’t think they are humble enough to be saved. They have too much.

Please, Job, and Abram were both very rich. One was just and perfect, the other was the Father of a Nation and a Friend of God.

The Disciples, were small business men or tax collector’s, neither of them was poor.

Do not despise the wealth and success of the man of God. The Lord would have us to prosper and be in good health as our soul prospers.

You do not need to be poor, (money-wise), but poor in Spirit. (Not believing that we are Holier or better than others).

He was a faithful man, and feared God above many. theunfetteredpreacher

The walls of Jerusalem were finally rebuilt. Nehemiah set these men in charge.

Nehemiah 7: 1-3

Now it happened, when the wall was built, and I had set up the doors, and the porters and the singers and the Levites were appointed, that I put my brother Hanani, and Hananiah the governor of the castle, in charge of Jerusalem; for he was a faithful man, and feared God above many. I said to them, “Don’t let the gates of Jerusalem be opened until the sun is hot; and while they stand guard, let them shut the doors, and you bar them: and appoint watches of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, everyone in his watch, with everyone near his house.”

Hananiah was a faithful man, and feared God above many.

Could this be said about me? I only wish. I am not faithful in prayer, or devotion, in giving, loving, mercy or grace. Do I fear God? Am I in awe?

Unfortunately, I tend to expect God to listen to me; (like He needs my advice or direction). Instead of faithfully listening to and obeying Him.

I like to think I am not alone, (in thinking if God would just do things my way), the work would be done.

I know this is ridiculous, if God listened to me, the world would be in an even bigger mess than it Is. BUT, the truth IS, if I was faithful in prayer and in seeking Him, I would be praying, instead of complaining, allowing the Lord to act by praying His will be done. (Not mine).

If we were truly Full of Faith and Faithful to His calling, if we were truly in Awe of a Righteous God, we would be living a life He could use to bless others.

We need to forget about ourselves, our desires, plans, hopes and dreams and focus on the Eternal. Who cares what color the rug is, or if we Baptise by sprinkle, pour or immerse.

The Christian Baptism is not about Repentance, we have done that, we are saved, it is about obedience to God and receiving the Holy Spirit.

They were commanded to wait for the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, those who had been Baptised in John’s Baptism, we’re Baptised in obedience and received the Gift of the Holy Spirit.

The Gifts of the Spirit are the building materials He gave us, to build His Church.

I’ve not written anything for quite a while. I’ve not been very open to the Lord’s voice. His Word has been closed to my understanding,

I have been lazy, I wasn’t like Jacob, (Genesis 32:24,) I gave up the fight. I feel like Esau, wondering, ‘Is there no blessing for me?’ (Genisis 37:34)

I know better, I am just discouraged. I look behind me and see no one following. No signs, wonders or miracles. No voice saying walk this way. (Isaiah 30:21)

My hopes, dreams, and plans, are farther away than ever. I stay here because I haven’t been directed or released to go elsewhere.

Our Pastor reminds me that John Wesley wasn’t allowed to preach in the Church he was a member of good standing in.

I think to myself how much bigger than Anglican Church would be if they had embraced John’s followers, instead of driving them away.

If you follow the News (?), these are Terrible, Racist, Fascist, Unacceptable Words, Thoughts or Ideas. The President is causing division, by calling out OTHERS. (Those not white Christian Conservatives).

Sorry, I get frustrated with his tweets at times, but, he at least has the sand to call out the loony, Socialist left, that wants to not only change our country but also erase our history.

Yes, if a Christian, he is still a baby, (unformed, not very Christ-like), but as I look at the Church, many denominations, keep their flocks as babies, uninformed of both the scriptures and the power of God.

Our President is best compared to King Saul or Samson. Flawed men, that the Lord used to further His plans.

The path the left is on bothers me much more than what the President tweets or says. They would tare down our Country, he just points out their foolishness, bluntly.

As a Christian, I thank God that we have a Man in the White House, who is not afraid of the left press and party. He still has a long way to go.

I pray the eyes, ears, hearts, and minds, of our friends on the left, will see the light and depart from the dark path they are on.

Disappointment: theunfetteredpreacher

I am disappointed! WHY? Because I believe the Scripture.

1 Corinthians: 4:20
For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.

When I was first seeking God, I begged Him to show me that He was a God of Power and Might, not just words.

Growing up in a Catholic Church, I heard all the words, wondered at the mystery, and was disappointed with the reality.

When I was saved, I was introduced to a God of Power and Might, a God, who was alive, loving, comforting, healing, who gave true joy and peace.

A God who knew and provided my needs before I knew them myself. He was within me, around me, all I sought, wanted or needed.

I was part of a community of believers. Bold, working in the Gifts and Calling of the Lord.

Acts 4:29-31

And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word,

By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.

And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

Where did their boldness come from? The Lord stretching forth His hand to heal, and signs and wonders happening by the Name of Jesus.

Some 30+ years later, I am disappointed! The body of believers don’t believe.

We see few if any signs and wonders, we stay home from Church when sick, so we don’t spread our colds or flu.

We don’t expect signs, wonders and miracles, they just don’t happen anymore. WHY NOT?

Is God not the same yesterday, today and forever?

Has His ability to preform said works, diminished?

Expired?

Has he forgotten how?

No, we seem to be content, we are saved, loved by God, the redeemed of the Lord.

What more could we want?

I will tell you what I want!

The Power of God, in my life, real, and mighty for the pulling down of strong holds, powerful for the saving of souls.

Wonderful for healing, comforting, bringing peace and joy to the afflicted, the lost, depressed, all those in need of a touch from God.

The Kingdom of God in POWER. The Lord honoring His Promises in MY LIFE.

How and when, will I see this? When I am totally His.

When we like Elijah, speak and act on His Word, even in the face of the King. When we tell His story like Stephen, even as we are being stoned to death.

We are not bold. We are not powerful. We really are not faithful, true to His calling, active in His work.

Well maybe you are…

I sure fall short. I am disapointed, desolate and afflicted. I long to be true, called, chosen and faithful.

I have answered the call, been accepted into the chosen. My failure, is in being faithful.

I am the problem. “I”, “I”, “I”… this truth is devastating.

Like this home, covered in ivy, the temple of the Holy Spirit within me, is covered and strangled by my wants, desires, my sin and shame.

Lord, please, change my heart, my mind, my life. May I be a man after Your own heart and desires.

May I be a vessel, You can use to proclaim Your Kingdom in Power.

May Your promise of signs, wonders and miracles follow… Because I believe. Amen

My ever-present help in times of temptation and trouble.

He IS and He IS a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

The beginning and the end, the first and the last.

God Knows.

Our works, charity, service, and faith, and our patience.

GOD IS! WAS and WILL BE. GOD IS FAITHFUL.

Revelation 17: 14.

“These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.”

We are Called and Chosen by God. It IS God that is always Faithful. We must be Faithful also.

Because the Lord:

Why do I love, trust, and wait on the Lord? He has proved to be my refuge and strength and an ever present help in times of trouble? (Psalms 46:1)

I know He has for me. Here are some reasons for loving, trusting and waiting on the Lord.

Because the Lord:

Has heard my voice, my prayers and desires. (Psalm 28:6; 116:1-2). I will call upon him as long as I live.

I will Bless and Praise the Lord. Because the Lord: has dealt bountifully with me. (Supplied my needs, protected me, delivered me from evil and set me on the Rock). Because I have set my love on Him. (Psalm 13:6; 91:14)

Just a few reasons why I love, trust and wait on the Lord.

The Mysteries of the Kingdom: theunfetteredpreacher

The Mysteries of the Kingdom:

Jesus spoke in Parables, so that those who had hearts that were hard to the Gospel, would in; “seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.” (Matthew 13:13)

Yet, those whose hearts were open would ‘Know the Mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven’. (Matthew 13:11)

So what are these Mysteries?

The first is that we become children of God, like the Jews, by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ for our sins. (Ephesians 3:6)

It is interesting to me that before I was saved there really was no such thing as sin. (If it felt good, do It, tastes good, eat It, and if you like it do it again.)

As long as it was legal, it was fine. If it was illegal, it was ok unless you were caught.

When the Lord opened my heart to recognize sin, I discovered Repentance. Repentance led me to Belief, which caused me to become Righteous. Which, in turn, led me to Confession and Salvation.

A journey that happened in the blink of an eye.

Knowing that mystery was a life changer, yet there was more to be Revealed.

Paul received this Revelation in a personal meeting with Jesus. (Ephesians 3:3) We may not have been blinded, (like Paul) when we met the Lord, but we received the same Revelation of the Love and Grace of Jesus Christ.

Paul continued, as we should, to explain the mystery to others, we are to be faithful stewards of the mysteries of the Kingdom, calling all to the Knowledge of Christ. (Ephesians 3:9-10; 1 Corinthians 4:1)

We should pray the Lord will open the door for us to effectively share this blessing. (Ephesians 6:19) That the lost would come to Christ.

This is only the beginning of the Mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven. I hope you join me, to explore more.

Giants in our lives: theunfetteredpreacher

Are there Giants in your life?

Before I accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior, I was constantly fighting the Giants that had me enslaved.

Loneliness, alcoholism, fear, depression, ineptitude, lust, pride, nicotine, rejection and probably many I can’t name.

“There were giants in the earth in those days;”

Everywhere I looked, walked or worked. Everything I heard, read or spoke. I was nothing, then the best. I was brilliant then a dunce. I was around people but always alone.

I lived in “the land of giants.”

There was no escape, no relief, no hope.

Then I was introduced to Jesus. Oh happy day, the Giants have gone away!!!

I wish….

I had accepted Jesus as my Lord…I experienced the Peace that passes understanding, the Joy unspeakable and full of Glory, the Comfort and Love of the Holy Spirit.

Life was great!!! Until it wasn’t.

The Giants were creeping back. Those Christians that I prayed for and loved, rejected me….. Nothing I did satisfied. I was unsettled, indecisive, confused.

How could this be?

Depression, Rejection, Loneliness…. Worse than ever.
Why Lord?

Does any of this seem familiar? Could it be your story? Are you enslaved by Giants?

Do you know Jesus as your Savior?

I know many Christians, who claim Jesus as Savior, even call Him Lord. When He is not.

Are they really saved? I think so, they believe and confess Jesus as Lord.

Will they be joyful, victorious conquerors, peaceful, effective witnesses? Not a chance.

How about you? Is He your Lord? Are you walking with Him or hiding because of sin?

David the man after Gods heart, long after defeating Goliath, (the Giant), after becoming the legitimate King of Israel. Found himself fighting and losing the battle to the Giants of pride, sexual sin and murder.

He had wondered from Gods side. He was the king, his word was law, he had everything he wanted, needed or desired.

He had a visit from Nathan the Prophet. He was shown the condition of his heart. He recognized his sin.

Now we see why he was a man after Gods heart. He immediately repented, turned around, asked forgiveness. A man who Loves his Lord. A man who knew forgiveness.

As a Christian for over 30 years I am sometimes convinced I’ve destroyed the Giants in my life.

Then when I’m fat, dumb, happy and satisfied: I am visited again. “The last giant, He had a bed made of iron; it was over thirteen feet long and six feet wide!”

This Giant is bigger than the others because I’ve been hiding and feeding him. Allowing this sin to be my real Lord. The part of me I wouldn’t and couldn’t submit to my loving, forgiving Savior.

I repent, I confess, I turn from my wicked ways. I pray Lord thank you for helping me to defeat yet again this Giant.

With Your help he becomes just a giant….With fastings and prayers, as I submit to Your will, I become strong in Your might. I defeat the giant.

I walk in victory with My Lord, Jesus Christ. I become the joyful, victorious conqueror, peaceful, effective witness that my Lord calls all of us to be.

Have you destroyed the Giants in your life? Jesus will show and strengthen you.

“Jesus is the way, the truth and the life.”

Let Him Lord and Savior today.
