Do we give up hope? – The Fix-it Shop-Filling Station

There are so many people outside the doors of our churches and homes, who do not know Jesus, do not want to hear about Jesus, will not accept Jesus as Lord and Savior.

I stand here flummoxed. …why do they not understand the peace, joy and grace that could be theirs?  Why can’t I convince even those in my own family to realize the gift of Forgiveness?

This is very frustrating.   There is something even more frustrating though.

That is the number of people who believe in and accept Jesus but who do not accept the fulness of His Holy Spirit.  I believe the Holy Spirit (and His Gifts ) are the Talents the Master left us and expects us to invest and increase until His return.

So many accept the impossibility  of Jesus  dying on the cross to save us from sin and death but the Power of the Holy Spirit. ….not for me, not for today, I don’t  need it,  God doesn’t  want us confused.

On the day of Pentecost the first Gift of the Holy Spirit given to all, was the Gift of Tongues. The crowd received the Gift of Interpretation.

Acts 2:4,6
“And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.”

Why Tongues and interpretation?

Read Acts 2:
“And they were all amazed and marvelled,

And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this?”

As they stood there amazed, Peter related the Gospel,  talked about Jesus.

“Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.”

Again why tongues?

Anyone who can make a sound, can speak in tongues.

Now, I  am aware that Paul said: “Not all speak in Tongues. ”   Many of us use this as an excuse. …NOT TO EVEN THINK OF TONGUES IN MY LIFE!!!!

You do err, not knowing the scriptures and denying the Power of God. “

Paul in 1 Corinthians 12-14 complains about their abuse of the Gifts of Tongues and Interpretation.
He goes on to say:  (verses from chapters  12-13)

“Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.”

“And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?  Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?   But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.”

“That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.”

“Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.”

“When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.”

Up to this point when Paul mentioned Tongues and Interpretation,  he was speaking of Public use.  As we go on he tells us of Private use.

We may not all speak in Tongues or have the Interpretation for Public use but WE ALL HAVE THE ABILITY FOR PRAYER.

In 1 Corinthians 14, Paul goes back and forth between Public and Prayer Tongues.  I will attempt to sort it out.

“Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.
For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.”

“He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.  I would that ye all spake with tongues but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.”

Without Interpretation, no man understands the Gift of Tongues,  in Public it needs Interpretation,  in Private:  You are speaking directly to God.  You edify yourself.  (Edify: a : build b : establish
2 : to instruct and improve especially in moral and religious knowledge : uplift; also : enlighten, inform)

Why would you refuse this?

“Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.  For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.  What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.”

Again Public Tongues need Interpretation.  Tongues is under our control. …I pray in Tongues in private…I do not have the Gift of Interpretation,  or haven’t dared to try it.  So I do not speak in Tongues at a Church Service.

“I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all:  Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.
Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men.  In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.”

Here he makes the distinction between Public and Private.

” If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret.  But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.”

“And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.”

“For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.”

“If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.

But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant.

Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.
Let all things be done decently and in order.”

In Romans 8, Paul speaks again about praying in the Spirit.  (TONGUES )

Romans 8:25-27
King James Version (KJV)
“But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.
Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.  And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”

Jude has this to say:

Jude 1:19-21
King James Version (KJV)
“These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.  But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,   Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.”

James tell us:

“Do not err, my beloved brethren.   Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”

The Gifts of the Spirit are for us today.  Even the Gift of Tongues. …if not for Public consumption then realize “You can speak to God in Tongues in Your Prayer Closet.”

“You can realize the benefits in Your life”
~You are speaking directly to God
     ~ You are edifying Yourself
~ The Spirit interceeds for us
~ According to the will of God
~ Builds up our Faith
~ Helps to keep us in the Love of God

The Gifts are ours, why do we think we do not need or want them?

“Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.”

Reject the Spirit,  no thanks. …Ask for enlightenment today.   Anyone can have the God given prayer language.  ASK AND YE SHALL RECEIVE.   Believe and open your mouth, let the Holy Spirit loose.  Receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of Speaking in Tongues.   They all who believed spoke in Tongues.
