What is Righteousness?

What is Righteousness?   Righteousness is quite simply,  right standing with God.

Genesis 15:6
And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness.

Believed. ..counted it for righteousness:   What was it Abram believed?   It wasn’t simply a belief that the Lord exists,  he had been  worshiping, obeying and walking with the Lord for a number of years.

What made him righteous was the belief in the Lords promise of an heir.  He and Sarai were old beyond child bearing years,  yet he believed the impossible the promise of the Lord.

Today for us, it is belief in “Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:”  He has made us new men, which after God are created in righteousness and true holiness.

Our Righteousness,  holiness, sanctification, redemption, wisdom all come from the cover of the blood of Jesus which we receive when we believe.

We believe the promises of God to become Righteous but to exhibit Righteousness is more important.

The Lord would have us be ministers of righteousness;  (display the) peaceable fruit of righteousness,  suffer for righteousness’ sake, (be) instruments of righteousness,  walk in the way of righteousness, Awake to righteousness, and sin not; follow after righteousness, we should live unto righteousness:    seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness,  for the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost, and most of all be  preachers of righteousness.

These are all pieces of New Testament scriptures that tell us “what righteousness is”.

To  become Righteous,  we must set our face like flint to seek, love and obey the will of the Lord.  May we become the vessels He can use.
