In Bible study Wednesday night, we studied 2 Corinthians 3:4-4:6. Paul, in these Scriptures encourages us to understand, that it is the Spirit, that calls us, changes us, makes us able ministers of God.
When people reject us, or what, we share, they are really rejecting God. As the Lord told Samuel, when the people demanded a King.
Even knowing this, I allowed myself to become frustrated, when a beleiver, Baptist taught, misquoted Scriptures, and it’s meaning to me.
From Acts 2, when all the believers, received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, and spoke in tongues.
That I claimed, people who didn’t speak in tongues, or have the B of S, were not Saved.
I pointed put, we must be believers to receive the Baptism, and we must ask Him, for the Gifts, if they didn’t ask, they would never receive.
Point 1. You must be a believer, to ask and accept the Holy Spirit into your life. You can ask and accept the Gift of Tongues or not.
It does not affect your Salvation, if you refuse the Gifts God wishes to give you.
I believe, the Gift of Tongues, (our prayer language, is the first one God gave the believers, because it is the easiest one to learn to use. It was last on the list because people in Corinth, misused it.
I can understand how easy that is. It is a wonderful, experience.
The Lord gives us a Special Prayer Language.
(Seperate, from the Tongues and Interpretation we use to edify the Church).
So our Spirit can speak directly to God, without our understanding.
He Replied? God knows all the languages, there are. Why would He give us a Special one? He alreay knows our needs and desires.
Point 2: The Scriptures on our Prayer Language:
1 Corinthians 12: 1.
“Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.”
Speaking of our Prayer Language:
1 Corinthians 14: 2.
“For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.”
We need not interpret our Prayers…
1 Corinthians 14: 4.
“He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.”
To Edify ourselves is not a bad thing. To Edify, means to build up, Physically or Spiritually.
Jude 1: 20.
“But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,”
When we pray in tongues, we build up our Faith. When we in public, have Tongues, with Interpretation, we also build up the Church.
1 Corinthians 14: 4-5
“He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.
I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.”
Point 3: Should we seek the Gifts of the Spirit?
1 Corinthians 14: 13,14 18-19
“Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.
For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.
I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all:
Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.”
Point 4: Should we encourage others to ask for the Gift of Tongues, or any of thr Gifts? Public Tongues with Interpretation.
1 Corinthians 14:20-22
“Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men.
In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.
Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.”
Again the difference between Church and Private Prayer.
1 Corinthians 14:27-28
“If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret.
But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.”
We are in control, it is up to us, when we use Tongues:
1 Corinthians 1r:32-33
“And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.”
1 Corinthians 14: 37-40
“If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.
But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant.
Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.
Let all things be done decently and in order.”
I need to remember, they are rejecting God’s word not me.
Open their eyes, ears, and hearts, that they might grow in You.
Thanks for visiting, come back soon.
Know, you are loved.
