Is there a difference between the Lord and God of the Old Testament? The Creator, God is Elohim the Creator, Supreme Ruler in the Hebrew/Chaldee language. The Lord is the Father, the Everlasting One, Jehovah, or Yahweh in the Hebrew/Chaldee language.
I have noted previously Chapter 1 of the Bible is the Creator’s story, with mention of the Spirit of God. Chapters 2 and 3 we meat the Lord God, we often treat this as the first and last name of God. I believe it is 2 of the 3 Natures of God. The Father and Son, the Law and Grace.
I would take this opportunity to highlight the differences in the speech and actions of both. In Chapter 4, the find the Lord in action. In Chapter 5 Elohim takes the center stage, Enoch walked with God and was not.
In chapter 6 We find the Lord, (Yahweh 6:3-7). Struggling with evil humans and decides to destroy them.
Meanwhile, we have God, (Elohim 6:4-14). The world was corrupt and full of violence, He would destroy the people but Noah, was to build a ship. Noah did all Elohim directed.
Yahwey was pleased with Noah, (6:8,7:5) and Noah did all Yahweh ordered, in (6:22), we find he did everything Elohim ordered. Both Elohim and Yahweh had them enter the ship and closed the door.
After the flood, Elohim remembered Noah, (8:1,15-18) 8:20-21) we find Noah making a burnt offering to Yahweh, and Yahwey was pleased.
I sincerely hope that this doesn’t confuse but opens our eyes to the diversity of the Natures of the Trinity. I truly believe this is the Revelation and Inspiration of the Lord, and I pray it helps to draw people closer to the Lord.
