Somethings must be given up: The Fix-it Shop-Filling Station

When Moses decided to see what was going on with the burning bush, He received a direct order from God.

Exodus 3:4-6
King James Version (KJV)
And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.

And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.

Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.

I believe, this is the first instance where man needed to give something up to enter into the presence of God.

The dirt and dust, (a symbol of sin and shame), was a product of the world, and isn’t allowed on Holy Ground.

As the Priest hood was established, we find ceremonial washings, special clothing, certain rituals for worship, for dealing with death, for the offering of sacrifices and gifts to the Lord.

In the New Testament we no longer need be concerned with our these outer trapings.

We must be clean within.

Colossians 3:8
But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.

If we have these things within, they will soon be communicated to others vocally.  What is within, soon comes out.

Ephesians 4:22
That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;

We must overcome this corruption, this sin within.  The writer of Hebrews tell us to lay it aside, give it up.

Hebrews 12:1
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

1 Peter 2:1
Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,

We must leave our Old Man behind and finish the course cloaked with the New.

Colossians 3:9
Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;

We must allow the Lord  to change us within.

We must be Sanctified by the Lord.  Set apart from the world, reserved for His Service.

We run into trouble, because it is easier to do, ……than to change ourselves.

So we have institutionalized Worship.

Mark 7:8
For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.

Our Rituals, Traditions, Orders of Service become a form of Godliness that denies, (hinders God), and His Power.

God is not impressed with our “Church Service” and our “Public piety.”  He is very interested in the “condition of our hearts.”

I firmly believe, “Church“, should be Praise in song until the Spirit touches hearts. Only then are we prepared to receive the Word of truth.

Sometimes this is a message, (a sermon), a special Word for this people today.

If the Lord hasn’t given this Special Word, we need to teach….line by line, verse by verse, chapter by chapter.

For this feeds the flock.

Our thoughts, ideas, great speeches,  that is only more hot air, hindering the Holy Spirits work.

Peter was told to feed the sheep.  I believe we must let the Word of God do the work.

Also like Peter, we must be prepared to meet our maker, with clean hands and a pure heart.

2 Peter 1:14
Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.

I write this as I struggle with laying aside the sin which so easily besets me.

I am believing that like quiting smoking, to rid myself of this weight, I will need to fast and pray it away.

I long to be a vessel of use to my Lord, not one of dishonour.

Lord, please guide, direct and correct as well as  protect me.   Amen

Thanks for visiting. Come back soon.

Do you struggle with weight issues ?
This is my life long struggle- now in the hands of God.
Another is the tendency to get hurt by anything and sometimes having to fight or argue with loved ones to prove my point- I am now praying for self control and God is giving me it and also giving me the grace to see when to keep quiet.
