2 Corinthians 12:12 King James Version (KJV)
12 Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds.
The signs of an Apostle: What a concept? Is there a way to prove if someone is an Apostle? What are these signs?
◆ Something that is recognized by people (seen)
◆ Something done with patience (love, the fruit of the Spirit)
◆ Signs (supernatural)
◆ Wonders (unknowable)
◆ Mighty deeds (beyond human ability)
Paul had a thorn in the flesh… He prayed to Jesus:
I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.
My grace is sufficient for thee:
Gods unmerited mercy and forgiveness is enough:
for my strength is made perfect in weakness.
Gods strength in us is multiplied by our knowing we are unable:
Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
The power to do mighty works for others negated his own needs:
Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.
Paul grew to understand; His faith, belief in the promises of God, while in the midst of his infirmities. …was the reason God could work with him.
Jesus needed the cross to defeat the devil, maybe we need infirmities, problems, sickness, troubles?
We must deny ourselves, take up our cross daily and follow Jesus.
The way we deal with the trials, tribulations, sickness and the weaknesses we battle could be that, that allows God to work through us in supernatural ways.. The thorns in the flesh we deal with, our cross could be: the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life.
Paul worked the Spirits Gifts but did so with patience and love. He exemplified the Fruit of the Spirit:
Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
When teaching on the Gifts, Paul emphasizes love, love is the way, the reason and the power of the Gifts. Without love, Jesus would not have come to die for us. The Spirit would never have come to comfort, guide and teach us the road to follow.
Without love we will never fulfill the Great Commission. ….We need to pray the Lord releases the signs of an Apostle in our lives. We must become vessels that God can trust to release His power to heal, to proclaim His love and grace to all nations and to see the results.
I believe that the Signs, Wonders and Miracles of God will be shown when God has a vessel He can use…..Lord help us to be that vessel.
