I would not have you ignorant.
“Ignorance is bliss” How often have we heard and at times believed this? In truth ignorance robs us of many blessings.
In 1 Corinthians 12, Paul tells us:
Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
Growing up I went religiously to Church and Catechism. I don’t remember the Gifts of the Spirit being taught. The crucifixion, resurrection, love, forgiveness, the 10 commandments, rituals, creeds and church holidays. I was ignorant, I was never taught that Jesus is a personal God, that I could meet Him. today, of the power that shall follow those who believe, or the Gifts of the Spirit.
Even in born again churches, unless we attend Bible Studies and search the scriptures ourselves the Gifts are hardly mentioned, never mind taught. This is no one’s fault, just a matter of priorities. Why teach on something that appears to have passed away with the Apostles.
My Bible states that, Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today and forever.
These signs shall follow them that believe. In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
The Lords words seem empty.. I can speak with other tongues, I certainly battle the Serpent, (he often gets the better of me). I’m not in the habit of drinking anything questionable and some that I lay hands on recover.
.In Mark 6 it states Jesus could not do mighty works because of their unbelief. He could only heal a few sick folk. To me that is the state of the Church today. We see little of the power of God.
How do we correct this problem? I think we should start by recognizing and studying the Gifts of the Spirit in the Word, whenever mentioned in the Word..
